How to make 2017 your best year yet

Seriously, where did 2016 go? It feels like only three months ago that I was coming back from Croatia. Now it’s almost Christmas? Time goes fast when you’re having fun, or so they say. 2016 was…let’s just say…interesting. It seemed like week after week, there was some new drama arising that made us want this year to be over. I mean, I don’t really have to list anything- just go on social media and within ten seconds you can see for yourself. Nevertheless, good things did happen too- it was the year of the underdog in sports. Leicester City, Western Bulldogs, Cronulla Sharks and Portugal *shudders* all won major titles for either the first time in decades or for the first time in their history.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure a lot of us are looking forward to 2017. Right about now is the time when a lot of us start making plans for the new year and come up with our so called resolutions that, let’s be real, we usually don’t fulfil and give up come mid-February. Then there are those who start worrying about 2017 potentially being like 2016 and even more dramas ensuing.

So I’ve come up with a list of ways to make your 2017 your best year yet. Sounds cliche, I know. It sounds like something out of every second magazine around this time of year, and for us Aussies, I wouldn’t be surprised you read it in a particular female voice because you’ve heard that phrase be said way too many times on TV.

If the slogan wasn’t already taken by Nike, I’m pretty sure I would have kept it for this blog. Honestly, just do what you have to do. Focus on your goals and your goals alone. Don’t get swept up in the hysteria of what’s happening in the world. This is an excuse for you to focus on your own world, not the one that thinks that some celebrity break up is a huge deal. Although it’s good to be aware of your surroundings and staying up to date, it’s even more important to focus on yourself. At the end of the day, Brad Pitt or Donald Trump aren’t necessarily going to be the ones who get you where you want to be. It’s all up to you. So before enveloping yourself into social media and becoming negative as a result, just remind yourself that ultimately, everything you want to achieve comes down to you.

Stop. Worrying. Yes, easier said than done but you have to start somewhere. Stop worrying about whether or not 2017 will be good to you or not. Stop worrying about whether you’re going to enjoy uni or not. Stop worrying about those pesky little things at work. Stop worrying about whether the risks you take will pay off. Just. Stop. Worrying. If 2016 has taught you anything, anything at all, it’s that life is too short. You can’t predict the future and you can’t change the past. It is what it is. All you can do is smile, stay positive and thrive towards a better you.

I suppose this works with the notion of stop worrying, but whatever you do, do not let what others are doing or thinking dictate what you do or whether or not to do something. You probably hear quite a bit about how you should eliminate toxic relationships from your life and surround yourself with positive vibes- I guess that’s what this means too. We’ve all got a friend who freaks out about what’s happening in the world and is all like “please, please, please 2017 be better”. It will be better if you let it. Relax and just focus on what you want to achieve. Nothing’s going to happen if you sit around all day, hoping everything you ever wanted just falls into your lap and you’ll live happily ever after.

When you have a goal and you set out to achieve it, the most important thing is to never, ever, ever give up. Never. Never ever. Nikada. You start, you hustle and you keep hustling until you get where you want to be. And even then, you keep on hustling to bigger and better things. You keep going until you achieve everything want to and then when your time’s up, you can reflect on your life with no regrets. Never give up regardless. You just keep on going.

These were a couple of tips I came up with to making 2017 your best year yet. What did you think? What are your tips for making sure 2017 is the best year ever?
